The $14.5 million upgrade is jointly funded by the NSW Government and Edward River Council and will improve a 936 metre section of Hardinge Street, also known as the Cobb Highway, between Ochtertyre and Harfleur streets.
Hardinge Street is a key route through Deniliquin’s busy commercial precinct and forms part of the Cobb Highway, carrying around 6000 vehicle movements each day.
Edward River Council has been undertaking the first phase of the project, involving construction of a new and larger water main, new kerbs and gutters and some new footpaths along this section of the highway.
Transport for NSW will start the next stage of work from Thursday 11 June, delivering a new road surface on a 430 metre section between Harfleur and Wood streets.
The work will include new concrete median strips, turning lanes and pedestrian crossings to improve road safety, along with landscaping to improve the appearance of the street.
The resurfaced road will also include new kerbs and gutters, as well as new marked parking bays to support access to local homes and businesses.
The final stage of the project will include further road resurfacing on a 506 metre section between Wood and Ochtertyre streets and is expected to be carried out next financial year by Transport for NSW.
The first stage of road resurfacing work will be carried out in day and night shifts and is expected to be finished in mid-July.
Traffic changes in the work area will include lane closures and reduced speed limits.
Residents near the work area have been consulted about project impacts, including night work and property access while work is carried out.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys and allow an extra 5 minutes of travel time while this important upgrade is delivered.
