• Work on the project has been impacted for various reasons which has caused a delay in the delivery program.
• A nationwide restriction on work around telecommunication infrastructure temporarily paused essential utility relocation work. Multiple days of heavy rain early in the program also impacted work.
• The program has been revised and work will pause in mid-September to allow time to prepare the site for large traffic volumes expected for the Deniliquin Ute Muster in the first week of October.
• The road resurfacing program is planned to resume in mid-October after the event.

• Work will continue along the road shoulders and building median strips, installing kerb and gutters, some new footpaths and doing streetscape work.
• Edward River Council is planning to finish its civil work by 18 September, weather permitting.

Yes, the Hardinge Street/Henry Street intersection will remain open.

• Long vehicle parking is available along Hardinge Street between the Ochtertyre Street roundabout and Wood Street. Further long vehicle parking may be found along Wood Street or adjacent streets.

• Potholes will be fixed and the road surface prepared so it is smooth for traffic use over the interim period.
• Any new potholes identified during the pause in work will be attended to by our work crews.

• The restriction on work around telecommunication infrastructure disrupted the work schedule, and meant work on the road reconstruction/asphalting could not be completed in time for the Ute Muster traffic.
• Crews needed time to prepare the site for these large traffic volumes in the first week of October, and will be back on site at the earliest possible time following that period.

Normal construction hours are Monday to Friday, 7 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, 8 am to 1 pm.

Some work, such as pavement sealing, will need to happen at night. Nearby residents and affected businesses have been notified and will receive reminders before night works occur.

Wet weather and unforeseen issues can affect the timing of construction. Council will provide updated information if key dates change.

Edward River Council and Transport for NSW are upgrading Hardinge Street, between Ochtertyre and Harfleur Streets, to improve safety, access, drainage and road condition for all road users.

The works include:

• a renewed road surface and pavement
• concrete median strips and turning lanes
• upgraded stormwater drainage
• new and relocated water mains
• new kerbs and gutters, with some new footpaths
• new marked parking bays in safe locations
• pedestrian refuge islands and tactile treatments
• landscaping and greenery
• new signage and line marking.

The project covers a 936 metre section of Hardinge Street, which is part of the Cobb Highway, between Ochtertyre Street and Harfleur Street.

Hardinge Street is a busy local and regional road used by trucks, freight vehicles, buses, cars, motorcycles, cyclists and pedestrians. It also provides access to shops, businesses, homes and community facilities. The upgrade is designed to improve road safety, traffic flow, drainage, pedestrian access and the overall condition of the road.

The project is being delivered by Edward River Council in partnership with Transport for NSW.

No, we’ll maintain access to Holden Court under traffic control while work is carried out in front of this street. Residents can ask the controller on site for access.

Yes, but you might want to avoid the roadwork and travel via Napier Street to access the entry to Harvey Norman and Mitre 10 on Harfleur Street, and the Deni Plaza/Coles entry on Wood Street.

Yes. Hardinge Street remains open, with changed traffic conditions in place. At times, some intersections or lanes may be temporarily closed or traffic may be stopped or slowed while works are underway.

Please follow signage and the directions of traffic controllers, and drive carefully near workers and machinery.

There are no major detours in place, but there are local access changes and re-directions to help people reach shops, businesses and properties safely.

The speed limit has been reduced to 40 km/h through the work zone to allow construction to continue safely along the road and to protect road users, pedestrians and workers.

Yes. Some minor delays are expected during construction. Temporary traffic control will be in place when needed.

Traffic controllers will use stop/slow signs when workers need to temporarily stop, slow or redirect traffic. Drivers must follow traffic control instructions and all posted signage.

Yes. Emergency services access will be maintained throughout the works.

Talk to the friendly traffic controllers on site. They will facilitate access for you.

Vehicles and pedestrians should use the temporary access via Wood Street. This access is through the vacant block into the Deniliquin Plaza car park.

This access should be used for Coles, Liquorland, Bakers Delight, The Reject Shop, Smokemart and Red Rose Diner.

Harvey Norman and Mitre 10 can be accessed from the existing (now widened) driveway on Harfleur Street.

No. During the current construction, entry and exit points to shopping centre car parks along Hardinge Street are closed. Shoppers should use the alternative entrances as signed.

Yes. The temporary Wood Street entry includes a designated walking path for pedestrians, separated from the roadway by safety barriers. Pedestrians should take care and familiarise themselves with the changed traffic flow in the car park. Always watch for vehicles and stay safe.

Yes. The pathway is sealed and accessible for people using mobility aids, prams and similar equipment.

The temporary Wood Street access will remain in place until the Hardinge Street car park entrances are reopened.

For convenience and safety, vehicles entering via Wood Street should go straight ahead or turn left and continue clockwise around the shopping centre car park.

Only a small number of spaces have been removed to accommodate the temporary Wood Street entry. All other existing car spaces remain available unless otherwise signed.

The temporary Wood Street entrance provides access to the Deniliquin Plaza car park for Coles, Liquorland, Bakers Delight, The Reject Shop, Smokemart and Red Rose Diner.

People visiting Harvey Norman, Mitre 10 and Red Rose Diner can use the existing driveway off Harfleur Street to access parking at Harvey Norman and Mitre 10. When leaving the carparks, use the same driveway onto Harfleur Street.

Yes. While the current roadworks are underway, entry and exit points to shopping centre car parks along Hardinge Street are closed. Please use the Wood Street or Harfleur Street access points as signed.

Yes. Cars and pedestrians can enter and leave the Deniliquin Plaza car park via Wood Street through the vacant block. Pedestrians should use the marked and separated walking path.

For convenience and safety, follow the preferred clockwise traffic movement shown on the project signage and fact sheet. Please take care around construction traffic and follow signs.

Yes. Please travel around the car park in a clockwise direction to reach the Return and Earn recycling point. Do not turn right at the temporary entry.

Yes. Light freight vehicles can access Deniliquin Plaza businesses via the temporary Wood Street entrance. Coles delivery trucks will access the Coles loading bay via the Harfleur Street entrance at Harvey Norman.

Yes. After the roadworks are complete, there will be some changes to the way vehicles enter and leave the shopping centre car parks. This is due to raised medians on the road and maintaining the traffic flow.

The Hardinge Street bus stop and bus shelter next to Coles has been permanently relocated around the corner into Wood Street.

The move to Wood Street is permanent.

Yes. The Hardinge Street bus stop has been relocated to Wood Street.

After the roadworks are complete, there will be some changes to how vehicles enter and leave all car parks. Council will provide more information before those permanent arrangements begin.

The bus stop opposite Deniliquin Plaza near Hussey Lane will remain operational, but may shift along the street as works progress. Signage will be in place if the stop location changes.

Signage will be in place to direct passengers. Passengers should follow signage and any directions from workers on site.

No. Timetables remain the same. The local bus service operator, Dysons, is involved in the changes and will communicate with passengers as needed.

Yes. Businesses remain open and can operate as normal during construction, although access arrangements may change at times.

Access arrangements vary by location. Shoppers should use the Wood Street temporary entrance for Coles and Deniliquin Plaza businesses including  Liquorland, Bakers Delight, The Reject Shop, Smokemart and Red Rose Diner.

Shoppers should use the Harfleur Street driveway for Harvey Norman and Mitre 10. 

Other business access arrangements will be managed with affected businesses and signposted where needed.

Light freight vehicles can access Deniliquin Plaza businesses through the temporary Wood Street entrance. Coles delivery trucks will use the Harfleur Street entrance at Harvey Norman. Other freight and delivery arrangements will be managed with affected businesses.

Yes. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained during the works wherever possible. Access may be temporarily affected at certain times, such as during intersection closures, utility relocations or night paving works. Any interruptions will be kept as short as possible.

Some driveways may be temporarily affected during construction, particularly when kerb, gutter, footpath or driveway works are underway. Workers on site will help manage access and affected residents or businesses will be advised where possible.

Some residential and industrial driveways will be improved as part of the works. Where a driveway is disturbed by the project, it will be reinstated or improved as required.

Pedestrian access may be affected at times. The footpaths on the Rams Oval side will be closed during water main works, with detours and signage in place. A designated pedestrian pathway is available at the temporary Wood Street entry to Deniliquin Plaza.

Pedestrians should follow detour signage, on-site signage and directions from traffic controllers. For Coles and Deniliquin Plaza businesses, pedestrians should use the temporary access via Wood Street.

Yes. Some on-street parking on Hardinge Street will not be available during construction because safe work areas are needed around the construction site. Parking on private property and in business car parks will generally remain available, subject to local access changes.

Yes. Some on-street parking will not be available during construction. Locations and timing may change as works progress. Please follow signage and directions from traffic controllers.

Some areas where people previously parked informally on Hardinge Street will no longer be available for safety reasons, including safe sight distance requirements and the new road layout. New marked parking bays will be established in safe locations.

The new road has been designed to improve safety by adding channelised turning lanes and increasing safe sight distances at intersections. Parking in some areas can block driver visibility, so parking will only be marked and signed in areas that are safe.

Only if there is a marked parking bay. If you have concerns about parking near your property, please contact the project team to discuss your situation.

When the road is complete, marked parking bays will be available for trucks, cars and caravan/trailers in designated safe areas. Most parking in the industrial area between Ochtertyre and Wood Streets will be retained and marked for long vehicles.

Timed parking is not currently planned. If timed restrictions are considered in the future, affected businesses and residents will be consulted.

The alternative access on Ochtertyre Street has been upgraded to accommodate extra traffic.

Parking inside the oval remains as normal. Parking on Hardinge Street may not be available during construction, so please allow extra time to find alternative parking when attending the oval.

Traffic management will be provided if required. Please follow the directions of traffic controllers and drive carefully near workers, pedestrians and machinery.

The road has been designed to improve safety by adding channelised turning lanes and increasing safe sight distances at intersections. Channelisation separates turning and through traffic, creating safer and more efficient traffic flow.

The road has been designed to accommodate heavy vehicle movements, including Over Size Over Mass vehicles, with features such as mountable medians, low profile kerbs, removable or layover signage and road widening at key intersections.

Hardinge Street has a mix of heavy vehicles, freight vehicles, buses, cars, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians. The concrete median and turning lanes are included to separate turning vehicles from through traffic, support safer traffic flow and improve safety for all road users.

The design allocates space for all road users and includes features such as pedestrian refuge islands, tactile treatments, new footpaths in some areas, line marking and signage to improve safety and visibility.

Channelisation is included to create a consistent road layout, reduce driver confusion, separate turning traffic from through traffic and reduce the risk of rear-end and intersection crashes.

Oversize and overmass (OSOM) vehicles wider than 3.5 metres can only travel through the work zone during standard working hours from 7am to 5pm Monday-Friday, and up to 1pm on Saturdays.

Drivers should stop at the designated pull-over areas and contact traffic control on UHF Channel 27 or the mobile phone 0437 969 287 before driving through the work area.

Traffic control including a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h and partial lane closures will be in place. There are no detours in place for this project. 

Operators or pilots are advised to pre-plan the route and contact the project team in advance to coordinate access through the site.

Designated Pull-over areas:

• Parking area adjacent to the Deniliquin Oval, corner Ochtertyre and Hardinge streets (for northbound traffic)
• Davidson Street Rest Area (for southbound traffic

There will be some noise and minor vibration from activities such as underground boring, water main works, kerb and gutter construction and road paving. The project team will take steps to reduce impacts as much as possible. If your residence has been identified as potentially affected by noise from night paving works, a Transport for NSW representative will consult with you. Some dust and construction impacts may occur. These will be managed through standard construction controls, including dust suppression and safe handling of materials.

No mature trees are planned to be removed. Existing trees will be retained and protected where needed. Some already disturbed vegetation in nature strips may be removed and replaced. New trees, shrubs and landscaping will be provided once construction activities allow. Consultation will occur with interested local groups regarding the selection of species to be planted.

The environmental impact is expected to be low. The works are mainly within an already disturbed road reserve and are not expected to significantly affect protected fauna habitat or threatened ecological communities.

Searches undertaken for the project confirmed that no places or buildings with cultural, historical or social significance are expected to be affected by the works.

The project is not expected to have long-term negative environmental effects. Disturbed areas will be reinstated, and new landscaping and trees will improve the streetscape.

Where possible, project materials will be reused or recycled. Material that cannot be reused or recycled will be taken to an appropriate waste facility.
