What is flushing?

Flushing is when we release water at a high flow rate to clean the water mains (the water pipes that deliver water to your property). This flushes out any sediment or other buildup in the pipes. We do this on a regular basis as  part of our maintenance program. It may also be done periodically after we attend to a fault or to test the water network.

Why are you flushing the water mains?

It’s important to clean water mains from time to time to remove any potential build up of sediment in the pipes. Council regularly flushes the town water mains to ensure we supply the best possible drinking water.

    Where is the flushing happening?

The program started at Lawson Syphon Road Deniliquin and is following the water pipes throughout town.

To see where the flushing is occuring, check KEY DATES on this page.

When will my area be flushed?

The timing and schedule is affected by a few factors which make exact planning difficult. The program started on 28 July and will take some months to work throughout the town.

Keep an eye on the KEY DATES on this page where we will post the areas that will be flushed the next day.

Flushing occurs between the hours of 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Thursday only.

There is no flushing on Fridays.

Will my water supply be interrupted?

No, we should not need to turn your water off to flush the water mains. There might however be a fluctuation in water pressure or a brief interruption as the water moves through. If you notice crews flushing in your street, please refrain from using your washing machine at that time.

How will the flushing affect me?

During and after flushing in your area, you may notice:

    • Temporary discoloured water
    • Fluctuations in water pressure
    • Brief interruptions to water service

We advise you to refrain from using your washing machine during the flushing hours and to run cold water taps for several minutes should any discolouration occur.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we carry out these necessary works to maintain the reliability and safety of your water supply.
