Consultation has concluded

The development of State significant projects, including wind farms and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), will have an impact on the local and regional road networks. This is due to the additional traffic in terms of traffic volume as well as the size and weight of the vehicles required to support construction of these developments.

Council staff have prepared a draft Road Development and Maintenance for State Significant Developments policy to manage impacts on the local and regional road network due to State Significant Development. The draft policy details:

• Current level of service regarding rural road cross sections and the anticipated traffic volumes for different classification of roads,

• Requirements for road upgrade works,

• Undertaking required road upgrade works,

• Apportionment where roads may be shared by multiple developers at the same time.

The draft policy is now on public exhibition for 28 days, closing on 17th August 2026. We encourage you to have your say on the draft policy.
